Very High Output (VHO) fluorescent lighting is a good option for both freshwater and saltwater tanks requiring higher light output. These lights are exactly as named they have a very high output compared to standard fluorescents. A standard 4 foot fluorescent is 40 watts, whereas a VHO bulb is 110 watts, almost 3 times the light output of standard fluorescent. VHO fluorescents are available in several different styles, sizes, and color spectrums. They can come as completed retrofit kits, which are ready to install in an existing hood/canopy. We also have the bulbs, ballasts, and end caps all available separately. VHO is a great lighting alternative to metal halides which can generate heat and require special mounting applications. While manufacturer suggest bulbs lasting 10-12 months, we suggest replacing VHO bulbs every 6-8 months for optimal lighting output.
